Medicare, explained before anyone asks you to decide

Mendham, Chester, Morristown, and the surrounding towns. How Medigap actually works, what pushes your premium up, and the enrollment windows that cost you money if you miss them.

Mendham Medicare is run by Ryan Ross, a licensed New Jersey insurance producer. Every rule on this site links to the source that sets it: CMS, Social Security, or New Jersey state law. Last reviewed  September 2026

Three things most people find out too late

A couple in Mendham retires at 66. One of them keeps a consulting client for a year. Their income in 2025 was high, their income in 2027 will not be, and nobody tells them that Medicare prices their premium off the 2025 return. That surcharge is avoidable, and the form that fixes it takes twenty minutes.

Medigap is not a plan you can always switch into later.

There is a window when carriers must sell you a policy regardless of your health, and a much longer period when they can decline you. Which side of that line you are on depends on decisions you make at 65.

How Medicare Supplement plans work

Your premium depends on a tax return from two years ago.

IRMAA is the surcharge on higher incomes, and it catches new retirees constantly, because it looks backwards at the year you were still working.

What IRMAA costs, and how to appeal it

The enrollment penalties last for life.

Miss the window without qualifying coverage and the penalty is added to your premium permanently, not for a year.

When to sign up for Medicare

Written for this corner of New Jersey

Most Medicare content is written for the whole country, which means it is written for nobody. Whether your doctors are at Morristown Medical Center or Overlook changes which plan types work for you. Whether you spend three months a year somewhere warmer changes it again. So does a household income that puts you over the IRMAA threshold, which in these towns is common enough to be worth planning around.

This site covers Mendham Borough and Township, Chester, Randolph, Morristown, Morris Township, Harding, Bernardsville, Far Hills, Peapack-Gladstone, Madison, and Chatham.

What you will and will not find here

What you will find:

Rules with their sources attached. Cost figures with the year they apply to. Plain explanations of how Medigap, Medicare Advantage, Part D, and IRMAA interact. Dated pages, so you can see when something was last checked.

What you will not find

Pressure. Which plan fits depends on your doctors, your prescriptions, and your income, and no website can answer that for you.

When you want that conversation, Ryan is a licensed New Jersey insurance producer and can have it with you.
